SBA Communications is a holding company. Through its subsidiaries, Co. owns and operates wireless communications towers. Co.'s principal operations are in the U.S. and its territories. Co. also owns and operates towers in Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Panama. Through its site leasing business, Co. leases antenna space primarily to wireless service providers on towers and other structures that it owns, manages or leases from others. Co. also assists wireless service providers in developing and maintaining their own wireless service networks. As of Dec 31 2011, Co. owned 10,524 tower sites and managed or leased about 4,800 actual or potential communications sites.
