Dime Community Bancshares is a unitary savings and loan holding company. Through its subsidiary, The Dime Savings Bank of Williamsburgh (the Bank), Co. gathers deposits from customers and invests them in multifamily residential mortgage, commercial real estate, one- to four-family residential mortgage, construction and land acquisition, and consumer loans, mortgage-backed securities, obligations of the U.S. Government and Government Sponsored Entities, and corporate debt and equity securities. The Bank's primary lending area is the New York City metropolitan area. As of Dec 31 2011, Co. had total assets of $4.02 billion and total deposits of $2.34 billion.
